William “Mike” Michael Stromitis, 81, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away September 29, 2026 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. He was born August 1, 1945 to Stanley and Dorothy (Oldham) Stromitis, in Hebron, Nebraska.

Mike worked for NPPD at the Gerald Gentleman Power Plant in Sutherland, Nebraska and was on the startup crew in 1977. He joined the volunteer fire department in 1978 and retired in 2018. During this time, he rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Mike served as Deputy State Fire Marshall from 2000 – 2015. Some of the offices that Mike held over the years were; member of Nebraska State Fire School Committee, 15 years; member of the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighters Association, 26 years; Nebraska State Firefighters Association officer: President, 1990-1991, 1st Vice President, 1989-1990, 2nd Vice President 1988-1990. He served as president, vice president, secretary, training officer and board of trustees for the local fire department. President of Nebraska Society of Fire Service Instructors. Mike was a volunteer firefighter for 50 years, 40 of those on the North Platte Volunteer Fire Department. Mike was a former State District Deputy for the Knights of Columbus and longtime financial secretary for St. Patrick’s Council 1211 and Assembly 607. He was very devoted to his Catholic faith and held many positions in the church. Mike will be remembered as a strong-willed man, a builder and carpenter, building family homes in Pickrell, NE and Rapid City, SD. He loved working with his hands. Mike was a giving person, always helping others.

Survivors include his wife Cheryl Stromitis, North Platte, Nebraska; 3 daughters, Lori Stromitis, North Platte, Nebraska, Kristy Stromitis, New Castle, Wyoming, Debra McGuire, Albion, Illinois; grandchildren, Cassidy McGuire, North Platte, Nebraska, Rhiannon McGuire, Albion, Illinois; brother, John David Stromitis, Beatrice, Nebraska; sisters, Mary Lou (Don) Frawley, Monte Vista, Colorado, Clara Siske, Littleton, Colorado, Julia Skalla, Marysville, Kansas, Christina (Stephen) Kennedy, Brownsville, Nebraska; along with other family members and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Dorothy Stromitis; sister, Kathryn (Darrel) Wilson.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Rosary will be7:00 P.M., Friday, October 9, 2026 at the church. Officiating the services will be Reverend Vidya Sagar Arikotla. Book signing 9-3, Friday, October 9 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in Pickrell, Nebraska at a later date. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
